David P. Borans,  Principal

Dave Borans is presently the principal owner of IES, Inc., an environmental consulting company, that he established in 1986.

Dave graduated from Boston State College in 1963 with a B.S.E.D ., establishing concentrations in Mathematics, Science, and Chemistry. In 1983 and 1984, Dave acquired further education courses at Boston State College and Harvard University.

Prior to establishing IES, Inc. in 1986, Dave served as CFO for a medium sized engineering and architectural firm, purchasing agent for a major municipality in Massachusetts, and a high school and college course teacher of Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and the Sciences, for a large city in Eastern Massachusetts.

Presently, Dave is the Principal Owner of IES, Inc. in charge of environmental policies, corporate direction, and continual client contact, which also consists of being responsible for implementing new polices, procedures, contractual matters, and expansion decisions.


Kevin W. Taylor, Senior Vice President

Kevin has been employed at IES since 1995. His duties include serving as the primary contact for clients including financial institutions, realtors and other government agencies; scheduling of staff; direct oversight of projects and budgets. He has also preformed all Phases of Environmental Site Assessments; and supervised all aspects of soil and groundwater remediation projects including report review with risk assessments. He has also conducted Subsurface Investigations; UST and soil removal projects; technical report writing; and Health and Safety Programs. Additional duties included conducting indoor air quality assessments; air monitoring services; lead based paint surveys; mold/mildew inspections and remedial plans.

Prior to IES Kevin was employed by Hygenitics Inc. He served as the Project Manager for term contracts involving Industrial Hygiene Services with the United States Postal Service (USPS); the State of Connecticut Department of Public Works (CTDPW); and State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT). Responsibilities included active project management, including serving as the primary contact; management of field operations; supervision of personnel; along with budget preparation, management and review. Additional duties included performing comprehensive asbestos surveys; preparation of asbestos abatement design; regulatory compliance and enforcement. Additional responsibilities included teaching courses involved in the asbestos abatement industry; conducting lead-based paint surveys; indoor air quality studies (IAQs); preparation of technical reports; and development of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).

Kevin attended the State University of New York at Plattsburg and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science (1985); and a Master of Science Degree in the Natural Sciences with concentrations in the Sciences and Education in 1987.


Kerry Asetta, Environmental Professional (EP)

Kerry Asetta is currently the Vice President of the Lynnfield, MA office of IES, Inc., an environmental consulting company, that was established in 1986. She has worked at IES, Inc. since 1997 and has over fifteen years of experience in environmental consulting. Kerry has performed over 1,500 Environmental Site Assessments in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and Rhode Island. Kerry has performed Limited Removal Actions (LRAs) and Immediate Response Actions (IRA’s); and has prepared Response Action Outcome (RAO) statements, Hazardous Waste Manifets, and Bills of Lading (BOL). Kerry oversees subsurface investigations, Underground Storage Tank (UST) removals, and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Surveys. Kerry has performed sampling, filtering, and laboratory analysis of soil and groundwater samples; and has completed an internship at the MWRA Central Laboratory on Deer Island in Winthrop, MA. Kerry’s certifications include an Environmental Technology Certificate; OSHA Hazardous Waste Training; Asbestos Inspector; Grade II MA Municipal Wastewater Certification; Grade II MA Industrial Wastewater Certification; and ASTM Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments for Commercial Real Estate Certification.


John Beck, Field Operations

John has been employed at IES for over 10 years and has worked in all phases of environmental assessment, from risk appraisal and site review, to oversight of test boring operations and soil removal. John currently performs most of the onsite groundwater sampling operations for IES. He uses the latest sampling techniques and works closely with all of the project geologists to assure quality control and consistent test results from one project to the next.

John has three degrees in geology, most recently graduating with honors from Boston University in 1997. Prior to joining IES, John was employed by an oil field service company in the Appalachians, worked as a Production Geologist for Chevron U.S.A. Inc. in West Texas, and conducted original research in stratigraphic paleontology at Boston College.


Christopher D. Buchanan, Project Manager/Environmental Professional (EP)

Chris is currently a Project Manager at the Lynnfield, MA office of IES, Inc., and has worked at IES, Inc. since 2001. He has over ten years of experience in environmental consulting and has completed numerous Environmental Site Assessments in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Responsibilities include collecting soil and groundwater samples; conducting groundwater flow surveys; remedial design and implementation; consulting and assisting clients in resolving soil and groundwater contamination issues; UST closures; Underground Injection Well Closures; report preparation and review; project contracting and budgeting; supervision of remedial subcontractors, and interpretation of Federal, State and Local environmental laws and regulations in MA, ME, NH, and RI.

Chris received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology with minors in Chemistry and Mathematics from Salem State College in 1999. Chris has completed numerous Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) and MassDEP related Seminars and Classes, and is actively seeking a Licensed Site Professional (LSP) licensure. Prior to IES, Chris worked as an Engineering Geologist for a Geotechnical Engineering Company (MTGL) in San Diego, CA, and has a Massachusetts Construction Supervisors License (CSL).


Steven Iorio, Project Manager

Steve began working at IES, Inc. in early 2012. Over the course of his first year, Steve has managed a variety of consulting projects including risk appraisal and site review. He has performed ASTM Limited and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New Jersey. He has also been present on site for Underground Storage Tank (UST) removals, subsequent subsurface investigations, and oversight of test boring operations. In addition, Steve performs many of the field testing for IES, Inc., in the form of sampling, filtering, and laboratory analysis of soil and groundwater samples.

Prior to IES, Steve graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor’s Degree in 2008 and went on to study environmental management at the Harvard School of Continuing Education later that year. Steve then graduated from the Boston University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences in 2010 with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Policy and International Relations. Relevant topics undertaken during his studies included coursework in general environmental policy and decision making, U.S. environmental policy, and understanding physical principles of the environment.


Peter Borans, Co-Founder & President Advanced Medical Strategies

Peter Borans is the managing partner of IES, Inc. an environmental consulting firm that was established in 1986. We pride ourselves on high quality, fast turnaround environmental services that can be tailored to meet its clients ever changing needs.

Prior to AMS, Peter was EVP of Sierra Atlantic, an Oracle consulting company based out of Boston that was ultimately acquired by Hitachi. At Sierra Atlantic, Peter reported directly to the CEO and was a member of the executive management team, with full P&L responsibility and $25 Million in booked revenue for 2005. He was responsible for all commercial facets of East Coast’s practice core solutions, software, product and global professional services business, with a mission to provide high-value services and superior customer satisfaction.

Prior to Sierra Atlantic Peter was President of Sceptre Database Consultants where he had a key role in building a privately owned 8 person Oracle Outsourcing and Consulting Company to a 25 person, multi-million dollar organization that was ultimately bought by Sierra Atlantic. He was responsible for Sales, Finance, Operations, HR, managing operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established goals, objectives, and policies. Also responsible for capital management and managing all internal accounting, financial planning and analysis; including providing leadership for successful planning and reporting of corporate revenue, expense and operating performance goals.

Prior to Sceptre Database Consultants, Peter enjoyed a long career with Back Bay Restaurant Group rising from Assistant General Manager to becoming a member of the executive committee responsible for growth and strategic direction of the 35 unit, multi-concept Restaurant Company. As the Vice President of IT/IS, he oversaw and directed all aspects of MIS/IT and IS development, strategy, and deployment for a $100 million restaurant corporation.
Peter is a 1993 graduate of the Whittemore School of Business & Economics at the University of New Hampshire.
